In order to build a dynamic team, it is important that I share my experiences and time to catapult those around me to reach their full potential/goals.Ģ. In thinking about setting realistic and achievable resolutions for myself in 2023, I realized as people we work on our personal lives but pay little attention to our professional lives (unless we are up for a performance review or raise). Think about it, as professionals and leaders we should be continuing to strive to grow and be better not just for us but for those around us. How many times have you thought to yourself, “I could really work on… or I could really improve my…”? We don’t, we continue as we always have because after all we are where we are for being who we are, right? Wrong.Įvery year during performance review time in previous jobs that I have held, I would go into my boss’ offices with a set of 3-month, 6-month and 1-year goals that were relatable to my profession. At first, I know they all thought I was a little intense, but I believe sharing my goals not only held me accountable but afforded me many more doors and opportunities over the years. So, as I set out to make my 2023 resolutions, I put some real effort into reflecting on my professional life more than I have in the past. I thought about what I have to offer to those around me that I work with, but also what they have to offer me. After much reflection, these are my 2023 professional resolutions:ġ. Resolutions should not be unrealistic and if they are, they will just become unachievable, thus setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.Īs a young, independent adult I recall setting unrealistic resolutions for myself without a real plan to be successful. One such resolution was to eat healthier, but within a week I was craving Snickers and Cool Ranch Doritos and within two weeks I was back to my old eating habits. When in reality I should have made a resolution to reduce snacking or add more protein into my diet, as this would have been far more attainable for someone who thinks Snickers is a well-rounded meal meeting all dietary needs with its chocolate, nougat, caramel, and peanuts.
